About the Opportunity
The Drug Health Services team at South Western Sydney Local Health District is seeking a dedicated and adaptable Clinical Nurse Consultant or Clinical Midwifery Consultant to enhance our expanding service within the Substance Use in Parenting and Pregnancy Service (SUPPS).

The SWSLHD SUPPS program is designed to support and offer treatment options for expectant mothers facing substance use challenges. This program provides comprehensive intake assessments and treatment services for pregnant women experiencing current or recent substance use, along with case management for both ante and postnatal care. The initiative aims to extend its model to support families for up to two years.

We are in search of a CNC or CMC who is dynamic, engaging, and deeply committed to assisting mothers dealing with substance use issues during pregnancy, as well as their infants and families, all within a trauma-informed care framework.

Previous experience in Drug and Alcohol nursing is essential; a Midwifery qualification and experience are advantageous but not mandatory.

Key Responsibilities
The Clinical Midwife or Nurse Consultant (CMC or CNC) serves as an expert practitioner who leads and facilitates evidence-based practices. The CMC or CNC will advocate for a service that promotes clinical excellence, research, and professional leadership.

The CMC or CNC plays a vital role in enhancing quality healthcare by collaborating with healthcare providers and consumer groups, developing clinical practice standards, and evaluating their outcomes. The CMC or CNC is accountable for delivering services that ensure effective management of care within the designated specialty.

Application Process
To be considered for this position, candidates must thoroughly address the following criteria:

  1. Current Authority to Practice as a Midwife/Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  2. A minimum of 5 years full-time equivalent post-registration experience, including at least 3 years in the specialty field. Approved postgraduate nursing qualifications in a relevant specialty or equivalent qualifications/experience as deemed appropriate by the organization.
  3. Demonstrated strategies for maintaining current knowledge of clinical practice advancements and research in the relevant specialty.
  4. Ability to apply expert knowledge to deliver safe, compassionate, and culturally responsive care.
  5. Effective communication and engagement skills with patients/consumers, carers, and the multidisciplinary healthcare team to ensure responsive care.
  6. Capacity to interact professionally and personally resolve conflicts when necessary.
  7. Evidence of critical thinking in delivering advanced evidence-based midwifery care.
  8. Understanding and participation in risk management, workplace health and safety, and quality improvement initiatives.
