- We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Technical Artist to join our team. As a key member of our art department, you will be responsible for transforming concept designs into fully realized, optimized environments within Unreal Engine 5.
Responsibilities:
Development & Direction- You will collaborate with the Creative Director, Art team, UE developers, and Virtual Production teams across all projects to drive creative direction and technical implementation.
- You will own the full environment art pipeline from concept interpretation to real-time engine integration.
- You will lead a small team of artists, providing feedback, mentorship, and career growth while partnering on future hiring decisions.
- You will oversee multiple concurrent environment productions across internal IP and licensed external collaborations.
- You will drive sprint-based R&D initiatives, exploring new visual directions and technical workflows.
- You will translate concept designs into fully realized 3D environments with consistent visual language and narrative tone.
- You will transition scenes from placeholder assets to bespoke custom-built 3D content across a range of styles.
- You will create and maintain documentation, technical guides, and visual standards to support environment development and onboarding.
- You will own your workload, schedule tasks, manage deadlines, and proactively share progress with teams.
- You will collaborate with UE developers and Virtual Production teams to optimize environments for 24/7 real-time streaming performance.
- You will utilize UE5 features (Lumen, Nanite, Blueprints) to enhance lighting, texture fidelity, and environmental interactivity.
- You will leverage DSS tools and UE profiling systems to analyze performance bottlenecks and implement solutions.
- You will execute core technical art skills: modeling, UVs, material authoring, lighting setup, and scene assembly.
- You will apply or extend C++ to optimize environment systems, enable dynamic elements, and support broadcast triggers where applicable.
Requirements:
Required Skills and Qualifications- A broad professional portfolio showcasing a diverse range of projects, including full scene breakdowns, optimization proofs, tool or workflow demonstrations, and virtual production examples if available.
- No formal degree required but practical experience is essential.
- Past leadership in environment pipeline development or technical art teams is highly regarded.
- Familiarity with virtual production and motion capture workflows due to creative and R&D cross-collaboration with these departments.
- Experience in stylized art directions including cel-shaded or anime-inspired rendering.
- Comfortable working with or extending C++ code for tools or runtime systems.
- Expertise in game industry standard DCC tools like Substance Painter, SpeedTree, Zbrush, Maya, Blender, or Houdini.
