As a Property and Marine Underwriting Manager, you'll play a key leadership role in our Commercial Markets Crew, ensuring pipeline activity, top-line growth, and the execution of our go-to-market and underwriting strategy.

You'll set the day-to-day activity and priorities of your squad, defining the cultural standards they work towards, while ensuring effective collaboration across sales and underwriting to achieve a strong market focus.

This role requires a high degree of engagement in the market and across deal-making activities, especially in complex and highly visible accounts, integrating risk engineering and claims capabilities to ensure a whole-of-account view.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading a team of underwriters in State to achieve desired business outcomes
  • Underwriting commercial Property and Marine insurance in accordance with Group, ZAIL, and Zurich Australia requirements and financial and operational objectives
  • Developing and implementing underwriting strategies to drive business growth and profitability
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure effective risk management and underwriting practices
  • Providing leadership and guidance to underwriters to ensure they have the skills and knowledge required to perform their roles effectively

Requirements include:

  • Bachelor degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant field (e.g., financial markets, economics, financial management)
  • ANZIIF CIP membership or equivalent experience
  • Multiple years of underwriting experience across a range of technical underwriting disciplines
  • Previous people management experience, leading a multi-tiered management environment
  • Commercially astute with a comprehensive understanding of the General Insurance industry and the products available
  • Proven technical underwriting capability ideally in Property or Marine lines
  • Proven examples of growing a business and delivering change in a complex insurance environment
  • Proven ability to execute on strategic plans and company initiatives
