Health and Safety Specialist

The role of the Health and Safety Specialist is multifaceted and vital to the success of our organization. This individual will be responsible for promoting a culture of safety awareness throughout the organization, identifying potential hazards, and developing effective strategies to mitigate risks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular inspections and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and evaluate compliance with applicable regulations and industry standards.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive health and safety programs, policies, and procedures that align with best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide expert guidance and support to management and employees on health and safety matters, including incident prevention, hazard identification, and emergency response planning.
  • Deliver training sessions and workshops to enhance employee awareness and competency in areas such as hazard recognition, accident prevention, and environmental stewardship.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to investigate incidents, accidents, near misses, and potential environmental impacts, ensuring that appropriate corrective and preventive actions are taken.
  • Monitor and report health and safety performance metrics, identifying trends and areas for improvement, and providing regular updates to management.
  • Stay updated on relevant health and safety regulations, industry standards, and emerging trends to ensure continuous improvement and compliance.

Requirements:

  • Minimum Certificate IV OHS, and or Diploma in OHS.
  • 3 years-experience working as a Health and Safety Specialist or similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of local and national Australian health and safety regulations and standards.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and influence staff members at all levels.
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving potential health and safety issues.
  • Ability to conduct training sessions and develop engaging health and safety materials.
