Luxury Residential Design Director

We are seeking a visionary and experienced leader to head our residential design studio. As a Design Principal, you will be responsible for setting the design direction of major luxury residential projects, upholding and evolving our ethos, and overseeing conceptual, schematic, and design development phases.
Key Responsibilities:
- Set and guide the design direction of major luxury residential projects
- Uphold and evolve the ethos—balancing innovation, locality, durability, and elegance
- Oversee conceptual, schematic, and design development phases
- Ensure exceptional design standards across all studio output, resonating with our legacy of organic and site-responsive architecture
Project & Team Coordination:
- Lead and mentor design teams, from experienced architects to graduates
- Interface with senior leadership, ensuring smooth collaboration between design, visualization, interiors, and site management
Client & Stakeholder Engagement:
- Presentation of design concepts to clients and articulation of design rationale aligned with their vision and site context
- Maintain cohesive communication across teams and with external consultants
Quality & Sustainability:
- Enforce high-quality design through detail orientation and material selections
- Integrate sustainability and long-term resilience into every design—reflecting emphasis on lasting, site-honoring architecture
Requirements:
- Bachelor's or Master's in Architecture; registered architect status
- QLD Board of Architect registration ideal
- 10+ years in design leadership, preferably in high-end residential architecture
- Demonstrated expertise in concept design and Subtropical Modernism or similar
- Strong leadership, presentation, and mentorship skills
- Deep knowledge of software tools (e.g. Revit, SketchUp) and building codes
