Job Overview

The Safety, Health and Wellbeing team supports the detention centre workforce by providing expert advice and support in Workplace Health and Safety, Workers Compensation and Rehabilitation, and Employee Wellness.

About the Role

The Safety, Health and Wellbeing (SHW) Advisor is responsible for advising on workplace health and safety and organisational wellbeing across the Wacol Precinct. This role involves implementing departmental policies and procedures on workplace health and safety and organisational wellbeing, as well as designing and implementing initiatives in these areas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform Rehabilitation and Return to Work Coordinator functions as outlined under the Workers' Compensation and Rehabilitation Act 2003.
  • Assist in managing worker's compensation claims and rehabilitation and return to work activities.
  • Conduct investigations into workplace injuries, illness, and dangerous events, and provide practical advice and recommendations for managers to prevent recurrences.
  • Provide information, instruction, and training to management and staff on workplace health and safety and worker's compensation and rehabilitation issues.
  • Engage in hazard identification, risk assessment, and risk control activities.
  • Conduct internal inspection and audit programs, and report to management on safe systems of work.
  • Lead or work as a member of a team incorporating workplace health and safety functions.
  • Apply sound knowledge and application of the Workplace Health and Safety Act 2011 and associated regulations and standards.
  • Provide assistance to the Principal Advisor Safety Health and Wellbeing as required.

Essential Skills and Qualifications

  • Sound knowledge and application of Workplace Health and Safety Act 2011 and Workers' Compensation and Rehabilitation Act 2003.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to design and implement initiatives in workplace health and safety and organisational wellbeing.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
