Librarianship is a vital role that requires exceptional interpersonal skills, technical aptitude and a passion for lifelong learning. As a Casual Library Assistant in Lending Services, you will play a key part in delivering excellent customer service to our community.

This position provides essential coverage for team members who are away from work, ensuring continuity of services and providing an opportunity to develop your skills and experience.

The main responsibilities of this role include:

  • Delivering a warm, welcoming experience for library customers.
  • Assisting customers with accessing library technology, online platforms and other resources.
  • Helping customers find the information they need, whether it's books, articles or other materials.
  • Maintaining the appearance of the library by shelving books and tidying shelves.
  • Supporting the planning and delivery of library events and programs.
  • Processing new items as they arrive in the library.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A minimum of a Higher School Certificate or equivalent qualification.
  • Proven experience in customer service, preferably in a community-focused environment.
  • Good computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software.
  • Previous experience in a library setting would be highly regarded, but not essential.
  • Flexibility to work varying shifts, including weekends and evenings.
