
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children Services Lead

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children Services Specialist will be responsible for leading the implementation of a new practice framework in the region to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, young people, their families, and carers.
This role involves providing strategic advice and mentoring to regional departmental staff to deliver quality casework and address the overrepresentation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people in the child protection system.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leading the development of cultural capability across the region and implementing quality assurance mechanisms to monitor and continuously improve services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, their families, and communities.
- Analysing performance data to identify trends and issues, considering systemic issues, and providing evidence-based advice to Team Leaders, Managers, Senior Practitioners, and the Regional Director on the delivery of effective and culturally appropriate services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, families, and carers.
- Strengthening relationships between departmental staff and funded Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations to improve the quality of decisions and services delivered for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.
- Building constructive relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander agencies and communities to develop a shared responsibility and ownership for the protection of children and young people.
- Enhancing the department's standards and initiatives relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, including the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Placement Principles and effective family group decision making processes.
Requirements:
- Proven experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and families.
- Strong understanding of cultural competency principles and practices.
- Ability to analyse complex data and provide evidence-based advice.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
