About the Program

The reformed Mental Health and Wellbeing system in Victoria emphasizes the crucial role of families and carers in the overall functioning and sustainability of mental health services.

Services will be provided by a team of individuals with personal experience as carers, supporting families, carers, kin, and supporters of individuals facing mental health challenges, psychological distress, mental illness, or substance use concerns.

This is an opportunity to empower carers/supporters and family members to make meaningful change in their lives and the lives of those they support.

  • Welcoming new people to the centre
  • Providing an overview of the centre's activities
  • Collecting details of carers/supporters who attend the centre (if they wish to provide them)
  • Assisting speakers/activity facilitators with group activities
  • Providing a warm, inclusive, and welcoming approach
  • Attending groups as a lived experience/carersupporter/family member
  • Sharing experiences/strategies/knowledge during group sessions
  • Participating in group work training to develop skills for co-facilitation
  • Contributing ideas and reflections during group activities
  • Assisting with transport of carers/supporters to and from events
What You Will Bring

This role requires personal lived experience of caring for someone with mental health challenges or psychosocial distress and recovery.

Additionally, you will need:

  • A non-judgmental and supportive attitude, with the ability to empathise
  • A valid Australian driver's license
  • Current or willingness to obtain necessary checks, including a National Police Check and Working with Children Check
  • Evidence of right to work/volunteer within Australia
