Job Role

The position of a Renewable Energy Development Manager involves overseeing the development of Renewable Energy projects in Australia, encompassing wind, solar, and storage solutions. This role is responsible for ensuring that projects advance to final investment decision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Coordination:
    • Oversee project delivery through to construction phase
    • Coordinate internal teams: Engineering & Construction, Environment & Planning, Finance, Legal, HSE, and Community Relations
    • Manage external consultants to facilitate project development
    • Ensure timely completion within budget and agreed timelines
    • Foster stakeholder and community relations for successful project delivery
    • Negotiate tenure arrangements to secure land for projects
    • Coordinate with internal stakeholders across procurement, budgeting, project tracking, and investment approvals processes
  • Development Strategy and Assessment:
    • Conduct thorough investigations into development constraints on short-listed prospect sites and projects in feasibility stage
    • Provide accurate strategic assessments of development issues (land, permitting, grid connection, OEM procurement, resource assessment), risk, and opportunity
    • Manage emerging development issues with relevant stakeholders
    • Develop and maintain relationships with Government staff and local community representatives
    • Prepare project reports on progress, budget, schedule, issues, risk, and opportunity
    • Attend community events discussing key development considerations
    • Liaise with landowners and neighbors regarding key development matters
    • Monitor development legislation and regulations
  • Landowner liaison and negotiations:
    • Develop and maintain trusting relationships with project landowners from initiation to construction handover
    • Manage/Implement the landowner tenure agreement process and address landowner issues
  • Commercial Development:
    • Assess technical and commercial viability of projects and identify acquisition opportunities
    • Coordinate project report and investment case development

Experience and Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of experience in the renewables energy sector (pre-construction phase) Solar PV and/or Wind
  • Tertiary qualifications in engineering, town and regional planning, environmental planning is preferred
  • Strong experience in a project management position within the renewable energy industry
  • Development experience in the renewable energy sector
  • Understanding of the Grid and NER requirements to ensure successful development of renewable energy projects
  • Ability to work autonomously and within a team
  • Skills and experience in negotiation and influencing outcomes
  • Ability to operate at a detailed level, organize, and multitask
  • Understanding of local community dynamics, effective negotiation with landowners, regulators, utilities, and other stakeholders
  • Acting comfortably in cross-cultural teams, collaborating across country boundaries with a sense for diversity and inclusion
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
