Job Overview

The Assistant Director will lead the development and delivery of key policies, programs, and engagement priorities within the First Nations Branch.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver on key policies, programs, and engagement priorities through leading engagement across the department and other agencies.
  • Design and produce key products such as reports, briefs, ministerial correspondence, and talking points.
  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to build and maintain working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, senior executives, and the minister's office.
  • Represent the branch in committees and forums related to policy development and/or programs.

Requirements

  • Have a sound understanding of First Nations culture and its connection to country, including cultural authority, traditional lore, customs, and values for managing country.
  • Hold an in-depth understanding of First Nations policy, programs, management, and/or environmental reform, as well as departmental programs.
  • Be able to approach problems collaboratively, continually improve processes, and have a positive outlook.
  • Be able to engage respectfully with First Nations communities and stakeholders to achieve impactful and sustainable outcomes for the department and its people.
