Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Mental Health Support Role

We are seeking a culturally strong and compassionate individual to provide person-centred care in line with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health priorities.

  • Deliver culturally safe mental health support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
  • Provide advocacy within multidisciplinary health teams to promote holistic care.
  • Manage a caseload of clients with complex needs, including mental health, substance use, trauma, and social support.
  • Build strong community links and engage with stakeholders to support integrated care.
Key Responsibilities

Culturally Safe Practice: Apply knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and histories to deliver person-centred care.

Advocacy: Provide advocacy within multidisciplinary health teams to promote the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Casework Management: Manage a caseload of clients with complex needs, including mental health, substance use, trauma, and social support.

Community Engagement: Build strong community links and engage with stakeholders to support integrated care.

Collaboration: Work effectively within a multidisciplinary team to achieve desired outcomes.

Professional Development: Engage in ongoing professional development to enhance skills and knowledge in culturally safe practice and mental health support.

Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant policies, procedures, and legislation related to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and wellbeing.

Requirements

Qualifications: Hold a relevant tertiary qualification in a field such as psychology, social work, or counselling.

Experience: Have experience working in a mental health setting, preferably with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

Skills: Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.

Knowledge: Have knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories, and health priorities.
