Family Preservation and Reunification Program

The Family Preservation and Reunification Program is an innovative service that works with the whole family system. It aims to prevent at-risk children from entering or re-entering care by providing a comprehensive support framework.

About the Role:

This position is situated in Northern Metropolitan Melbourne, covering the Hume Merri-bek area. The team will work as a cohesive unit and report directly to the FPR Practice Leader. The model is an integrated approach to supporting families and preventing children's re-entry into out-of-home care.

Key Selection Criteria:

  • Significant work experience in a relevant field, understanding key child development issues for young parents and their families with complex needs.
  • Understanding of and demonstrated experience working with attachment, trauma, and intergenerational disadvantage.
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake complex casework with families and children who have experienced trauma.
  • Experience referring to and collaborating with local service networks.
  • Knowledge of attachment and trauma theories related to Aboriginal children, young people, and families.

Preferred Knowledge/Experience:

  • Experience using strengths-based, child-centered family-focused theoretical models.
  • Completion of assessment tools such as North Carolina Family Assessment Scale and Adverse Childhood Experiences Questionnaire.
  • Implementation of evidence-based interventions within systems affecting young people's behavior (family, peer, school, neighborhood).

Required Personal Skills:

  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills with capacity to work collaboratively with others.
  • Excellent time management skills with ability to meet deadlines and targets.
  • Ability to work flexible hours when required.
