Teaching and Research Position in Robotics

We are seeking a highly skilled academic to fill a teaching and research position in robotics. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating courses, supervising higher degree by research students, and engaging with industry partners.

The key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Teaching and Learning:
    • Design, coordinate, and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate courses, including lectures, tutorials, assessments, and student supervision.
    • Engage in curriculum development and innovation, incorporating online learning, alternative teaching methods, and current industry needs.
    • Contribute to course and program quality by aligning with evaluation feedback, university policies, and academic standards.
    • Provide academic support and advice to students, collaborate with colleagues, and contribute to program development through stakeholder consultation.
  • Research:
    • Develop and lead independent or collaborative research aligned with the School's strategic priorities, using best practice methodologies and ethical standards.
    • Apply for external research funding and other support mechanisms to sustain and grow research activities.
    • Publish research findings in peer-reviewed academic and professional journals to enhance the School's research profile.
    • Review and draw upon best practice research methodologies and conduct research in an ethical and responsible manner.
    • Collaborate with colleagues and postgraduate students on interdisciplinary research projects, contributing to shared objectives and project outcomes.
  • Supervision and Researcher Development:
    • Contribute to the supervision of HDR students and oversee recruitment, selection, and onboarding of qualified employees.
    • Manage employee performance by providing coaching, feedback, and training, while promptly addressing conflicts and grievances according to University procedures.
    • Ensure accurate remuneration and benefits for employees, coordinating with Human Resources when changes occur.
  • Citizenship and Service:
    • Actively develop partnerships with colleagues, industry, government departments, professional bodies, and the wider community.
    • Exhibit leadership through mentoring, collaboration, and efficient management of internal service roles and decision-making processes.
    • Perform administrative functions as needed, support other academic positions during absences, and consistently demonstrate UQ values.

Additional responsibilities at Academic Level C include:

  • Providing academic leadership in research training and supervision, maintaining an active record as principal supervisor of HDR students.
  • Initiating and coordinating strategic collaborative research projects within the University and with national and international partners.
  • Actively seeking, securing, and managing external research funding, contributing as a chief investigator in grant applications.
  • Producing high-quality research outputs as lead contributor, including publications in national journals, refereed publications, and conferences.
  • Contributing to the enhancement of academic programs through coordination or development of engaging, relevant, and contemporary teaching.
  • Supporting the School and broader community through leadership roles, industry engagement, and facilitating the translation and commercialisation of research outcomes.
