About the Role

As a Defence Infrastructure Portfolio Manager, you will play a critical role in managing one of Australia's largest real estate portfolios, supporting the operational readiness of over 90,000 Defence personnel across every state and territory.

The Infrastructure Division is at the forefront of delivering facilities and infrastructure that underpin Defence capabilities. Our team works closely with stakeholders to ensure the development, maintenance, and strategic disposal of Defence properties align with the National Defence Strategy.

You will be part of the Security and Estate Group, which supports implementation of key priorities, including advancing Australia's acquisition of conventionally-armed nuclear-powered submarine capability, enhancing long-range strike capabilities, and strengthening northern bases.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program and project management for major capital facilities and infrastructure projects across the Defence estate
  • Strategic policy advice and estate planning, ensuring legislative compliance and alignment with government policies and reforms
  • Contamination management and remediation, including PFAS and other contaminants
  • Program delivery, including management of national programs such as unexploded ordnance, noise and flight path monitoring systems, and Australian noise exposure forecast maps
  • Professional engineering activities, including policy development, design reviews, and governance assurance
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Experience in managing multidisciplinary teams and setting clear performance standards
  • Excellent time management and prioritisation skills
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills to liaise with stakeholders and build productive relationships
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills
  • A record of working positively to achieve outcomes, being resilient, and persevering when challenged

Formal qualifications and subject matter expertise are beneficial for some roles, particularly program and project management, explosive ordnance, engineering, data management, analytics, and environmental management.
