Claims Specialist Expert

As a Senior Casualty Claims Specialist, you'll be responsible for producing high-quality work products on intermediate to complex claims. Your duties will include investigating claims, reserving and adjusting losses, and communicating with stakeholders.
- Coach and mentor junior claims staff in your technical field.
- Analyse first reports to determine the nature of loss and scope of injury or damage.
- Conduct thorough investigations of all aspects of reported claims, including potential fraud.
- Secure and verify supporting documentation for accuracy, completeness, and relevance.
- Establish accurate and timely reserves for claims.
- Seek technical assistance for claims exceeding delegated authority.
- Maintain an active diary to achieve timely development and disposition of claims.
- Promptly document all claim developments on the claims workstation file.
- Exercise good judgment in reaching final claim disposition by evaluating loss nature, liability, injury or damage, coverage, and applicable limits.
- Negotiate compromise settlements where appropriate.
- Effectively communicate with various stakeholders, including claim department staff, customers, loss control, underwriting departments, brokers, insureds, counsel, and third-party representatives.
- Recognise and pursue subrogation opportunities.
- Adhere to the Insurance Contracts Act and other relevant statutory rules and regulations.
- Effectively control the use, work product, and expense of outside vendors.
- Present cases at claims committee.
- Perform other duties as required by the Claims Manager.
- Ensure the workplace is safe and without risk to health.
- Hold a tertiary qualification, preferably a law degree.
- Utilise investigation techniques, written and verbal communication, insurance contracts knowledge, legal requirements, damage evaluation, negotiation skills, litigation procedures, and reserving skills.
