Electrical Design Leader

About the Role

We seek an experienced Electrical Design Leader to oversee high-quality electrical engineering designs across industrial and infrastructure projects.

This leadership role involves technical oversight, team coordination, and client engagement ensuring all designs meet performance, compliance, and safety requirements.

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the development of electrical designs including power distribution, motor control, protection systems, and lighting for industrial and commercial installations.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of detailed drawings, schematics, cable schedules, and documentation using electrical CAD software.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant Australian Standards, client specifications, and statutory regulations.
  • Maintain design quality through adherence to company procedures, peer reviews, and design checks.
  • Conduct and review electrical studies including load flow, fault level, arc flash, and voltage drop analysis.
  • Review and approve designs, supplier documentation, and construction packages.
  • Provide input into project scoping, estimating, scheduling, and risk management.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure integrated design outcomes.
  • Provide technical direction and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
  • Support commissioning teams and respond to site-based technical queries.
Requirements

To be considered for this role, applicants must possess a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent and minimum 8-10 years' experience in electrical design engineering preferably in mining, oil & gas, utilities, or heavy industry sectors.

The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of LV and HV electrical systems, equipment specifications, and design practices.

A sound understanding of AS/NZS 3000, AS/NZS 3008, AS/NZS 61439, and other relevant standards is also essential.

Candidates should demonstrate excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.

A proven ability to manage design deliverables across multiple projects and meet deadlines is critical.

Australian working rights, Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) or Registered Professional Engineer (RPEQ / RPEV), and experience in site-based engineering, commissioning, or construction support are highly desirable.
