Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Nurse Specialist to join our team at the New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality nursing services and support to individuals with developmental disabilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor and Assess: Monitor individuals' medical and health needs, and assess their services to ensure they receive the best possible care.
  • Provide Nursing Oversight: Visit assigned homes weekly to provide nursing oversight and complete reviews of items, ensuring that individuals receive timely and effective care.
  • Collaborate with Healthcare Professionals: Interact with primary care physicians, medical specialists, and other clinical staff as necessary to ensure seamless care coordination.
  • Advocate for Individuals: Advocate for individuals' healthcare needs, ensuring that their rights and dignity are respected.
  • Maintain Communication: Maintain ongoing communication with medical liaison/designees and residential staff to ensure that individuals receive timely and effective care.
  • Support Residential Staff: Provide support to residential staff in maintaining health services for individuals, ensuring that they receive the best possible care.
  • Respond to Emergencies: Respond to emergency requests as soon as possible, ensuring that individuals receive timely and effective care.
  • Document Care: Complete follow-up documentation, including lab results, x-rays, and consults, to ensure that individuals receive timely and effective care.
  • Provide Training and Consultation: Provide health-related training and consultation to day program, IES, and residential staff, ensuring that they have the skills and knowledge needed to provide high-quality care.
Requirements
  • Licensure and Certification: Must have a license and current registration as a registered professional nurse in New York State.
  • Education and Experience: Must have a degree in nursing and relevant experience in healthcare.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with individuals, families, and healthcare professionals.
