About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Buyer for our Books and Magazines category. The successful candidate will be responsible for procuring high-quality products, managing supplier relationships, and driving sales growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Category Strategy and Product Range Development: Develop and implement strategies to drive customer interest and align with their changing needs; plan product ranges by demographic and location to maximise sales growth.
  • Financial Management: Oversee the profit and loss for the Books category, driving critical financial outcomes.
  • Supplier Relationships and Cost Management: Cultivate strong supplier relationships, negotiate to reduce costs of goods, prioritise first-to-market launches, and secure supplier marketing support.
  • Market Analysis: Stay informed on market trends, customer expectations, and competitor activities to identify new growth opportunities.
  • Range Review and Product Optimisation: Continuously enhance the product offering through thorough range analysis.
  • Cross-Channel Communication: Build strong, open relationships with corporate and franchise stores through regular communications and visits.
Requirements
  • Proven Experience: Proven experience in Books and Magazine buying, skilled in managing accounts and collaborating with large, branded suppliers.
  • Strong Negotiation Skills: Strong negotiator, especially in cost, revenue, and promotional support.
  • Commercial Acumen: Commercially astute with quick market interpretation.
  • Advanced Analytical Skills: Advanced analytical skills for data-driven decision making.
  • Strong Communication Skills: Strong communication skills, able to influence and engage effectively.
  • P&L Management: Solid understanding of P&L management.
  • Results-Oriented: Demonstrated track record of meeting key performance indicators.
  • Organisational Skills: Organised, proactive, and adept at time management.
