About this role
This is a key position within our data engineering centre of excellence, working closely with software developers and architects to design, develop, deploy and operate data services and solutions for cloud ecosystems.
Key responsibilities
- Design, create and manage cloud databases and data pipelines that underpin decoupled cloud architectures and API-first approaches.
- Collaborate with AWS cloud infrastructure engineers and software developers to deliver scalable, efficient and reliable data services on AWS environments.
- Own functional and non-functional design aspects and contribute to roadmaps and technical direction of data services on AWS environments.
- Model data and ensure data quality, availability and reliability to support advanced analytics, machine learning and generative AI requirements.
Requirements
- Deep understanding of data modelling and data quality; extensive experience with SQL and relational databases (e.g. MS SQL Server, PostgreSQL).
- Experience designing and building reliable and efficient data pipelines using modern cloud services on AWS (e.g. S3, Lambda, Redshift, Glue); ability to process large data volumes efficiently.
- Programming knowledge in Scala or Python; comfortable with Linux, shell scripting and automation frameworks.
- Experience with data-centric frameworks such as Spark; knowledge of data formats (JSON, CSV, XML) and data validation, cleaning and transformation techniques; familiarity with database design, indexing and normalization.
- Experience with automating data ingestion and transformation processes using scheduling tools; monitoring and troubleshooting data pipelines for reliability and performance.
- Version control: Git for collaboration.
