Are you a skilled craftsman with a passion for teaching? Do you want to experience the rich culture of the Yolngu people while honing your skills as a furniture maker?

This role offers the unique opportunity to combine craftsmanship with community-driven mentorship. As a Furniture Maker & Workshop Mentor, you will lead a team of trainees in the workshop, interpreting architectural drawings to bring designs to life.

With 5+ years of hands-on experience in furniture production and finishing, you will be responsible for managing timelines, collaborating with the broader team, and championing safety protocols.

You will also have the chance to explore the stunning Gove Peninsula and immerse yourself in the vibrant culture of Nhulunbuy.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and mentoring a team of trainees in the workshop
  • Interpreting architectural drawings to bring designs to life
  • Using a wide range of tools to create high-quality pieces
  • Managing timelines and collaborating with the broader team
  • Championing safety protocols and maintaining a safe, clean workspace

Required skills and qualifications:

  • Trade qualifications in Cabinetmaking, Joinery, Shopfitting, or Furniture Making
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in furniture production and finishing
  • Proven leadership in a workshop setting
  • Strong interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity
