Therapeutic Specialist

This is a 12-month maximum-term contract role, working in Dubbo with flexible hybrid working arrangements. As a Therapeutic Specialist, you will coordinate and deliver high-quality assessment, consultative, and referral services to support the development of Children & Young People in our care who have backgrounds of complex trauma, abuse, and/or neglect, and in some cases, physical and/or psychosocial disabilities requiring support.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead comprehensive assessments and planning through thorough evaluations and Positive Behaviour Support Plans.
  2. Develop, review, and support implementation of relevant therapeutic support plans, such as Positive Behaviour Support Plans.
  3. Provide expertise and guidance to support managers with reflective practice, and facilitate the development of effective strategies to prevent and respond to pain-based behaviour for young people.
  4. Develop a thorough working knowledge of the CARE and Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) models to deliver training as required.
  5. Advocate and lead evidence-informed therapeutic practice, in alignment with legislation, professional standards, organisational policy, and the CARE and TCI models, for all children and young people within the program.
  6. Engage proactively with internal and external stakeholders.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  1. Tertiary qualifications in Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Mental Health Nursing, or other related discipline.
  2. Current registration or eligibility for registration with the professional body relevant to your qualification.
  3. Experience using evidence-based assessment tools with young people with trauma-informed behaviour.
  4. Current Driver's Licence.
