Power Systems Engineer - Energy Transition Specialist

AusNet Services is seeking a highly skilled Power Systems Engineer to join our Energy Network Systems team in Melbourne. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in delivering Power Systems Modelling and Planning across the transmission network in support of our obligations as a Transmission Network Service Provider (TNSP).

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain long-term power systems and power flow analysis for AusNet's distribution and transmission networks
  • Design, test, and implement power systems applications such as State Estimator, PowerFlow, Contingency Analysis, and Operator Training Simulator
  • Develop network analytics and reporting processes to ensure network reliability and identify future network limitations
  • Provide day-to-day support of the Energy Management System (EMS) power system applications
  • Stay up-to-date with industry developments and innovations to support the energy transition
Requirements:
  • Detailed knowledge of bulk power systems and experience with power systems applications like State Estimator, PowerFlow, and Contingency Analysis
  • Understanding of primary plant, network protection, and control devices, with experience in functional design, testing, and commissioning of special protection schemes and remedial action schemes
  • Knowledge of transmission system reliability and performance
  • Knowledge of substation and transmission system components, performance, and operation, desirable
  • Sound ability in the use of power system analysis tools such as PSS/E, PSCAD, and SimSCADA, desirable
  • Knowledge of all legislated rules and codes governing the business and industry, such as the National Electricity Rules (NER) and AEMO Power Systems Security Standard
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on Power System Engineering
  • Eligibility for registration with Consumer Affairs Victoria's Business Licensing Authority
  • Eligibility for membership of Engineers Australia, desirable
