Job SummaryWe're seeking a highly skilled Senior/Principal Traction Power Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our Rail Traction Power sector, you'll be responsible for delivering high-quality traction power and earthing and bonding designs. You'll work closely with our Technical Directors and Discipline Lead to manage national projects, mentor junior engineers, and provide technical guidance.
Key Responsibilities- Manage traction power and/or earthing and bonding components of projects, meeting budgetary, quality, safety, and timeframe targets.
- Design AC and DC traction substation systems, including single-line diagrams, layouts, circuit diagrams, earthing and bonding schematics, and coordination with communication, civil, structural, and mechanical design disciplines.
- Conduct AC and DC traction power system studies, including equipment sizing, fault calculations, and insulation coordination studies.
- Coordinate traction power systems with overhead wiring and signalling system design.
- Design lightning protection systems.
- Analyze and design earthing systems, including pipeline LFI studies.
- Assess and design earthing, bonding, and electrolysis systems.
- Provide technical expertise and overview to clients and stakeholders, assisting with technical decision-making and offering alternative solutions when project parameters change.
- 8+ years' experience as a power systems engineer, with at least 3 years recent experience in traction power system design or equivalent.
- Tertiary qualification in electrical/power engineering, preferably chartered engineering and RPEQ status.
- Excellent spoken and written communication skills, including a working knowledge of MS Office.
- Highly regarded skills include experience in a design consultancy role, leading design teams, delivering traction design packages, working with traction power system modelling software tools, developing complex earthing and induction models in CDEGS earthing system software, developing traction power system models in ETAP or equivalent software tool, developing transient studies in ATP/PSCAD/EMTP, developing EMC management plans, and managing maintenance strategies and procedures.
