
Domestic Animal Management Specialist

This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires a skilled professional to assist with the implementation and administration of Council policies, domestic animal management plans, and state legislation related to domestic animals and livestock.
The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting complex investigations, seizing and impounding domestic animals, working collaboratively with state agencies in emergency response situations, and participating in the emergency after-hours on-call roster providing 24/7 service to the community.
This role requires a customer service focused team player who is able to work autonomously and has an understanding of evidence gathering processes, research, and legal brief preparation. The ideal candidate will have the ability to identify and safely handle domestic animals and livestock and understand their needs and condition.
Key Responsibilities:- Conduct investigations and gather evidence in relation to breaches of legislation, including serious dog attacks, complex nuisance complaints, and other issues.
- Seize and impound domestic animals and livestock, ensuring public safety and adhering to relevant legislation.
- Collaborate with state agencies in emergency response situations, executing warrants, securing scenes, and ensuring animal safety.
- Patrol the municipality, identifying and addressing breaches of state legislation and local dog control orders, and taking enforcement action as necessary.
- Participate in the emergency after-hours on-call roster, providing 24/7 service to the community.
The successful candidate will require (or be willing to undertake) the Certificate IV Government - Statutory Compliance or similar qualification, and/or relevant experience in a similar role. Preferred candidates will undergo a National Police Check and pre-employment medical assessment as part of the recruitment process.
