We are seeking a highly motivated Trainee Laboratory Assistant to join our team.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to start their career in laboratory work. As a Trainee Laboratory Assistant, you will perform a range of tasks under limited supervision including basic laboratory tasks, sample pick-ups, data entry and experimental procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform basic laboratory tasks under limited supervision
  • Perform sample pick-ups from local veterinary clinics
  • Perform sample receipt and data entry
  • Answer client enquiries regarding sample receipt, transport and referral
  • Carry out experimental procedures such as analysing samples and monitoring processes
  • Maintain records of laboratory accessions and test results
  • Maintain stocks of laboratory consumables
  • Maintain laboratory equipment in a clean serviceable condition
  • Decontaminate the laboratory benches and equipment on a regular basis and maintain the laboratory as a safe working environment
  • General house keeping
  • Prepare reporting templates
Requirements
  • Demonstrated time management skills
  • Ability to work under supervision in a team environment
  • Ability to maintain accurate records
  • Ability to perform written and verbal reporting of results to more senior staff and to clients
  • Understand the procedures for the safe handling of microbiologically and chemically hazardous materials
  • Skills with Microsoft Word and Excel Applications would be an advantage
  • Available to work weekends
  • A driver's licence is required
