About the Australia Telescope National Facility:

With a dedicated team of over 350 professionals, we manage several radio astronomy observatories and data repositories known as the Australia Telescope National Facility (ATNF), the premier facility of its kind in the southern hemisphere.

The role:

Reporting to the ATNF Program Director, the Chief Scientist will chart the course for astrophysics research at CSIRO. You will be tasked with formulating the strategy for the ATNF's research capabilities and fostering connections with the global astronomy community.

The ideal candidate will be an internationally esteemed scientist with a leading reputation in the field of astronomy and astrophysics. You will possess strategic acumen and exhibit inspirational leadership, promoting innovation and collaboration through mentorship and guidance.

This is a unique opportunity to lead within a world-class radio astronomy facility, equipped with cutting-edge technology and instrumentation.

About you:

  • A PhD (or equivalent qualifications and research experience) in radio astronomy, astrophysics, or a related discipline.
  • A well-established international reputation in the field of radio astronomy/astrophysics.
  • Proven experience in applying strategic thinking to guide the direction of an R&D organization.
  • A strong record of professional ethics and conduct.
  • Willingness and ability to travel both domestically and internationally as required.
