About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced astrophysicist to lead our research efforts in radio astronomy. As the Chief Scientist, you will be responsible for setting the strategic direction for our astrophysics research and developing the strategy for our research capability.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive research strategy for the Australia Telescope National Facility
  • Lead the interface with the global astronomy community and ensure the ATNF is at the forefront of international research
  • Oversee a portfolio of astronomy/astrophysics research projects and ensure they are well-resourced and aligned with the ATNF's goals
  • Set long-term science impact KPIs and monitor progress towards achieving them
  • Collaborate with the ATNF leadership team to drive innovation and collaboration across the organization
Requirements
  • PhD in radio astronomy, astrophysics, or a related field
  • International reputation in the radio astronomy/astrophysics domain, as evidenced by international awards, publications, or recognition as a leading expert
  • Proven experience in applying strategic thinking to set the direction of an R&D organization
  • Demonstrated record of adherence to professional ethics and conduct, including professional and respectful workplace behavior and a commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion
  • Ability to travel interstate and internationally, as required
