About the Role

Are you passionate about supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and ensuring culturally sensitive healthcare experiences? We are seeking an Aboriginal Liaison Officer to join our team at Riverland Mallee Coorong Local Health Network (RMCLHN).

This is a vital role in guiding patients through their healthcare journey within the Murray Mallee region. You will work alongside clinical staff to provide cultural support, facilitate clear communication, and ensure continuity of care, all while respecting cultural differences and addressing language barriers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide cultural support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients and their families, ensuring their hospital journey is safe, respectful, and supportive.
  • Assist in navigating the healthcare system from admission to discharge, ensuring continuity of care and communication with community health centres.
  • Advocate for language interpreters and ensure patients fully understand medical procedures and treatments.
  • Act as a cultural consultant to RMCLHN staff, promoting culturally appropriate practices and services.
  • Coordinate transport arrangements and monitor the accurate recording of Aboriginality status for patients.

Essential Criteria

  • Strong understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and health needs.
  • Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, ideally in a health or social services context.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage with diverse individuals and communities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and advocate for the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients.

Benefits

  • A competitive salary range of $76,561 - $80,256 per annum (pro rata), depending on experience.

  • DHS Working With Children Check (WWCC)
  • DHS National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) Worker Check
  • National Police Certificate (NPC) for employment involving unsupervised contact with vulnerable groups required for this position
