Working in mental health care for young people is a challenging yet rewarding career path. In this role, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team that provides specialist youth mental health care in custodial settings to young people and their families/carers.

The team at Parkville Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing Service (PYMHWS) work collaboratively with Youth Justice staff to support young people voluntarily admitted to the new Mental Health Unit at Cherry Creek Youth Justice Custodial Precinct.

This key leadership position supports young people in CCYJP who are admitted on a voluntary basis. Develop your clinical mental health skills within a first-of-its-kind voluntary eight bed forensic mental health unit.

About The Role
  • Primary point of contact for clinical issues and a resource for staff on each shift
  • Deliver evidence-based nursing care to young people in custody across a 24/7 rotating roster
  • Provide specialist mental health nursing interventions, and effectively manage critical incidents and emergency situations
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to deliver evidence-based interventions
  • Deliver mental health nursing care from a Strengths-Based, Recovery-Focused framework
About You
  • Bachelor's degree in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing or equivalent
  • Post-graduate qualification in Mental Health
  • Comprehensive experience in the application of clinical and nursing practice in youth mental health including risk assessment, mental state assessment, psychoeducation, care coordination, ideally in an acute or subacute inpatient setting
