We are seeking an experienced Data Engineer to join our team at Urbis, a market-leading built environment consultancy shaping cities and communities for a better future.

The ideal candidate will have minimum 5 years of experience working with data and at least 3 years in Azure. Tertiary qualifications in Computer Science, Statistics, Informatics, Information Systems or another quantitative field are required.

We offer a competitive salary ranging from AU $110,000 - AU $130,000 per year, depending on experience, as well as a generous parental leave policy, health & wellbeing programs, and ongoing training opportunities.

As a Data Engineer at Urbis, you will be responsible for designing our data and data pipeline architecture, optimizing data flow and collection within and across Urbis, and supporting our software developers and data analysts on data initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain existing on and off-prem (Azure) databases to support business continuity
  • Create and maintain an optimal data pipeline architecture
  • Assemble large, complex data sets that meet business requirements
  • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery and re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability
  • Build analytics tools that utilize the data pipeline to provide actionable insights
  • Work with stakeholders to assist with data-related technical issues and support their future data infrastructure needs
  • Keep our data under an appropriate level of governance structures such that it is secure and accessible to staff, Business Units, offices and clients both on and off premises

Requirements:

  • Significant experience within the MS Azure cloud environment. Certification to AZ900 as a minimum but preferably DP-200 & DP201
  • Proven experience as a data engineer, preferably using Azure services
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or equivalent for data engineering tasks
  • Experience with relational SQL and NoSQL databases, including Postgres
  • Familiarity with Git for version control and Azure DevOps for continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) processes
