About the Role

This is a pivotal senior leadership opportunity to drive economic growth and business support in a local community. As Head of Local Economy & Business Strategy, you will play a key role in shaping the future of this vibrant region.

The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of industry best practices, strategic planning, and program delivery. They will be a visionary leader with a passion for economic development and business support programs, adept at working collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.

Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Economic Development: Uplift current business models, benchmark successful examples, and streamline processes for businesses. Enhance economic development programs, identify strengths and gaps, and evolve marketing strategies for local businesses and shopping precincts.
  • Business Support: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to contribute to the implementation of the Boroondara Community Plan and the development of the next 3-year Economic Development Action Plan. Drive strategic transformation by aligning staff, stakeholders, and partners with new economic development priorities and service models.

A strong understanding of local and global trends is essential for this role. You will excel in fostering local engagement and driving innovative practices, facilitating clear communication and engagement to build understanding and commitment.

The successful candidate will lead and embed change across economic development initiatives, driving strategic transformation and alignment with new economic development priorities and service models.

Key Responsibilities
  • Streamline Business Processes: Review and enhance current business models, identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing changes to increase efficiency.
  • Drive Economic Growth: Collaborate with stakeholders to develop and implement economic development strategies, promoting business growth and investment in the local area.
  • Enhance Business Support Programs: Develop and implement programs to support local businesses, including marketing strategies, networking events, and training initiatives.
  • Foster Collaboration: Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to build partnerships and drive collaborative efforts that benefit the local economy.
