Job Title

The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water seeks a Biodiversity Information Technical Lead to lead a dynamic technical team at the cutting edge of biodiversity informatics and linked data.

As a key member of the Environmental Data Branch, you will help design and implement solutions in a complex environment with many partners. Your contribution will significantly uplift the management of national environmental data and information.

The successful candidate will provide leadership for, and build the capacity of, team technical staff and contractors. You will plan for and allocate technical staff capacity, work with departmental, inter-departmental and vendor IT to support and expand operational capability, and collaborate with staff and stakeholders to plan for future operations and data expansions.

You will also lead the response to technical challenges in system operations and expansion, support the analysis and use of linked semantic data through technical means, inform the continued development of the ABIS standard from a technical and operational point of view, and provide engineering advice to partner organisations.

This role requires experience with IT/programming team leadership, 5+ years in a data systems management and development roles, expertise in cloud computing, personal hands-on experience with web API development, graph database development, and RDF data structures, tools and storage systems.

The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of cloud-based RDF databases, web APIs and data transfer & translation systems, as well as Semantic Web data models, Linked Data methods and technologies, and Knowledge Graph operations. Familiarity with Australian environmental data systems and practices is also highly desirable.

The successful candidate will be an Australian citizen and hold a Baseline Vetting security clearance. They will also undergo a pre-employment screening process, including a National Police Check, referee checks, character clearance, and a probation period of 6 months.

Requirements

Desirable Qualifications

Tertiary or industry recognised qualifications in Information Technology, Software or Computer Engineering or similar are highly desirable.
