Unlock a new career in analytical services with this entry-level fire assay position. As a Fire Assayer, you will play a vital role in ensuring the accuracy of precious metal analysis in mineral samples.

This is a casual, Monday to Friday, 8-hour shift role with weekend work and overtime available. As you build your experience, you can secure a full-time position and earn higher pay rates, with shift allowances and penalty rates for weekend or overtime work.

The day-to-day tasks include performing fire assay techniques such as fluxing, fusing, and cupellation, maintaining equipment, recording faults, and disposing of waste materials. You will also be responsible for inspecting samples and ensuring the assaying process is correct.

Essential skills include the ability to follow procedures, work rotating shifts, and meet strict deadlines. You must be flexible, reliable, and able to work under pressure in a hot, manual-intensive environment.

Job Requirements

  • Perform fire assay techniques such as fluxing, fusing, and cupellation
  • Maintain and record equipment faults
  • Maintain productivity and turnaround time
  • Correct disposal of cupels and fire assay lead wastes
  • Inspecting samples, fusions, lead buttons, and prills to ensure the assaying process was correct

  • Ability to work under pressure and to strict deadlines
  • The ability to work in a hot, manual-intensive work environment
  • To be flexible and reliable to meet the high demands of the section
