Executive Director

The Executive Director will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Ad Standards, a national advertising regulator in Australia. Reporting to the Ad Standards Governance Chair and the AANA Board, this senior executive will be responsible for developing and implementing the organisation's strategic direction, ensuring it remains responsive to changes in the advertising industry and regulatory environment.
Key responsibilities will include overseeing Ad Standards' day-to-day operations, enhancing efficient and effective processes, and managing resources to ensure the organisation's ongoing sustainability. The Executive Director will also be responsible for steering the Community Panel recruitment, decision making, and effectiveness, as well as maintaining robust governance frameworks and operational policies.
As the primary spokesperson, the appointee will nurture strong relationships with key stakeholders, including advertisers, media agencies, regulatory bodies, and the public. This will involve representing the organisation in industry forums, government consultations, and media engagements, and taking ownership of the evolution to more proactive monitoring and developing an approach to the successful and effective maintenance of advertising standards in non-traditional media.
The Executive Director will lead a small team, fostering engagement and building a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate will be adept at crafting medium to long-term strategic plans, finding solutions to complex and future-defining challenges, and communicating effectively with a range of stakeholders.
A compelling communicator with well-honed interpersonal skills, you will be comfortable in public speaking and engaging with the media, and effective in cultivating relationships with stakeholders. As a hands-on leader, you will motivate, nurture team members, value innovation, and champion continuous improvement.
