Bushfire Risk Management Specialist

About the Organization:
Ku-ring-gai Council is situated 16 kilometers north of Sydney's central business district, encompassing an area of 84 square kilometers. This region is home to approximately 124,000 residents and is renowned for its stunning natural landscapes.
Role Overview:
The Bushfire Operations Officer plays a critical role in the development and execution of strategies aimed at improving bushfire risk management initiatives in accordance with the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Bush Fire Risk Management Plan. Key responsibilities include:
- Enhancing and reviewing the Bushfire Risk Management Plan
- Representing the Council in various committees and collaborative groups
- Delivering training sessions focused on bushfire planning and management
- Preparing environmental impact assessments and burn plans
- Engaging with community stakeholders and regulatory agencies
- Participating in bushfire hazard reduction activities
Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A Diploma in Environmental or Bushfire Management
- Certifications in Public Safety, burn plan development, and chainsaw operation
- Significant experience in bushfire firefighting and hazard reduction techniques
- Proficiency in GIS software, MS Office suite, and the NSW Rural Fire Service Guardian application
- A valid Class C Driver's license
