
MDS Nursing Leadership Position

The MDS RN Manager plays a vital role in delivering high-quality care to residents and patients at our facilities. We are seeking an experienced and passionate professional to join us as a skilled nurse leader.
This role involves managing the RAI process and submission process by validating and monitoring reports, planning and organizing assessment and care plan information to optimize resident and patient care. You will oversee the team's plans, developments, and communications to ensure that they are aligned with the company's goals and objectives.
Responsibilities- Operations Management
- Manage and oversee the RAI process and submission process by validating and monitoring reports (EHDS).
- Plan, develop, organize, and communicate assessment and care plan information to staff members to optimize resident and patient care.
- Ensure departmental team plans, develops, organizes, and communicates assessment and care plan information to staff members to optimize resident and patient care.
- Oversee and/or complete the computer data entry and electronic submission process for MDS transmission (EHDS).
- Manage Medicare and managed care logs, directing decision making regarding insurance coverage, cut dates, and MDS schedules.
- Oversee skilled resident and patient statuses to maximize reimbursement.
- Oversee Medicaid resident statuses to maximize case mix scores.
- Participate in care conferences.
- Remain available during surveys and audits of the facility and/or the facility's documentation.
- Assist with insurance appeals by reviewing documentation coded on MDS and verifying for consistency.
- Attend all employee and departmental meetings with in-service training as scheduled or as directed.
- Quality, Compliance, and Risk Management
- Manage the interdisciplinary team to ensure accurate and timely MDS, CAA, and Plan of Care documentation.
- Provide final review of MDS and Plan of Care documentation of all disciplines offering education and advice as necessary and provide authorization.
- Maintain and communicate schedule of MDS and Plan of Care due dates.
- Keep up to date on changes in documentation regulations, RUG categories, and legislation affecting MDS reimbursement issues.
- Administration and Reporting
- Maximize reimbursement through team education, planning, and accurate and timely MDS assessments.
- Assist with reviewing and addressing issues with quality measures, survey findings, quality assurance findings, and other findings and/or survey results as assigned.
- People Management and Development
- Supervise MDS Nurses.
- Foster a positive work environment that attracts, retains, and motivates employees.
- Interviews, selects, and orients new direct reports.
- Define, establish, and promote performance expectations so direct reports understand and demonstrate excellence through high quality and consistent performance.
- Evaluate job performance of direct reports in accordance with the company policy and procedure and provide developmental guidance to staff for improved performance and growth.
- Monitor accountability with organization requirements prescribed by the Employee Handbook. Document and engage employees who are routinely not observing these requirements in an effort to achieve compliance. Work with Human Resources when circumstances arise that necessitate further documentation and intervention.
- Participate in the development, planning, scheduling, conducting, and monitoring of in-service training programs, on-the-job training, and orientation programs for departmental staff.
- Ensure that there is a reasonable and sufficient plan for staffing should a direct report be absent or a direct reporting position be vacant.
- Respond timely and thoughtfully to questions, requests, and work product from departmental staff that has been provided for review and approval.
- Education
- Nursing degree from an accredited college, university or vocational school required.
- Current unencumbered license for the state of Ohio to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) required.
- Experience
- Five years experience with MDS required.
- Two years experience in a supervisory role required.
- Three years experience as a nurse in a long-term care facility required.
- Two years experience in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices required.
- Knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to long-term care with special emphasis placed on documentation.
- Proficiency with Windows, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and the internet required.
- Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) systems required.
- Other Requirements
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
- Working Conditions And Special Requirements
- Sitting - Up to 8 hours/day.
- Standing - Up to 8 hours/day.
- Walking - Up to 6 hours/day.
- Lifting, transferring, pushing or pulling residents/patients or equipment/supplies - Up to 50 pounds.
- On-call availability - As assigned.
- Subject to falls, burns from equipment, odors, and cuts - Workday.
- Subject to residents/patients with various disease processes - Occasional.
- May be exposed to infectious waste, disease, conditions, etc. including exposure to the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses - Work day.
