Job Role: General Studies Teacher
**About the Opportunity**
We are seeking a qualified and experienced teacher to join our team as a General Studies Teacher. As a key member of the Welfare and Engagement Team, you will play an integral part in delivering structured and unstructured educational programs and activities for detainees.
This is an exciting opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of detainees and contribute to the overall success of our welfare services. You will have the chance to work with a diverse group of individuals, taking into consideration their special interests, skills, and needs.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Deliver educational programs to detainees, including English, Maths, and IT at a basic level;
- Communicate effectively with staff and detainees regarding activities and events;
- Provide and manage detainee access to computers/IT systems and internet services as required;
- Assist detainees to develop and maintain independence in their personal and health care needs;
- Provide skills-based learning around themes that relate to preparation for future lifestyle.
**Required Qualifications and Skills:**
- Certificate IV qualification in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL) or other relevant teaching qualifications;
- HLTAID009 Provide CPR and HLTAID011 Provide First Aid certificates with at least 6 months currency on the certificate;
- Working with Children certificate in accordance with the relevant state or territory child protection legislation (as required);
- At least two years' experience in supporting people with high needs, either in a disability service or aged care in a community setting;
- Knowledge of the Australian Core Skills Framework and the Core Skills for Work.
