Job Description:

We are seeking a motivated and safety-conscious Spraying Operator to undertake the application of selective and non-selective herbicides across parks, reserves, streetscapes, and other public open spaces within the local government area.

  • This role involves conducting targeted herbicide spraying to control invasive and unwanted vegetation in accordance with seasonal programs and environmental guidelines.
  • You will be responsible for operating and maintaining spraying equipment, including boom sprayers, knapsacks, and ATV-mounted units.
  • It is essential to identify and differentiate between desirable and undesirable plant species to ensure appropriate herbicide application.
  • Accurate records of chemical usage, application areas, and weather conditions must be maintained.
  • Compliance with all relevant safety, environmental, and legislative requirements, including chemical handling and PPE protocols, is mandatory.
Required Skills and Qualifications:

In order to succeed in this role, you will require:

  • Experience in herbicide application in open space or horticultural settings.
  • Knowledge of selective vs. non-selective herbicides and their appropriate use.
  • A current Chemical Users Permit (ACUP) or willingness to obtain.
  • A valid driver's license (manual preferred); MR license desirable.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.

Desirable qualifications include experience working in local government or contracted open space maintenance, familiarity with GIS or digital mapping tools for tracking spray zones, and a strong understanding of environmental guidelines.
