Job Overview

The Principal Electrical Engineer coordinates and directs the Electrical Engineering and Instrumentation function across minerals processing and site infrastructure projects in studies, design, and delivery.

  • Coordinates project electrical and instrumentation design activities to ensure quality, safety, and client requirements are met.
  • Supervises Design Engineers and Designer/Drafting staff to ensure compliance with technical and company standards.
  • Leads team members with integrity and accountability, performance managing, mentoring, coaching, training, recruiting, and retaining high-performing team members.
  • Selects and manages external electrical and instrumentation consultants.
  • Prepares budgets, time schedules, and resourcing of work for management approval and manages assigned projects for quality and change.
  • Participates in quality management process development and continuous improvement.
  • Supports project development activities through concept setting and review, and communication with clients.
  • Works with other Principal Engineers to provide a united multidiscipline approach to engineering solutions and resolving complex problems.
  • Drives collaboration with business units and regional engineering groups for consistent and quality engineering outcomes.
  • Uses interpersonal skills to build successful working relationships and networks within the industry.
  • Provides Safety Leadership for the Electrical and Instrumentation Engineering team.
Key Requirements

Strong technical foundation in Electrical and Instrumentation design, specification, and procurement management is required.

  • Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree.
  • Minimum 15 years' experience in design/consultancy environment in an engineering capacity.
  • Metals and Minerals Processing industry experience.
  • Experience leading and managing technical/project teams.
  • Experience in heavy industry environment.
  • Understands key electrical engineering design activities including Hazardous Area, Functional Safety, Lightning Protection, Lighting, and Power system studies.
Desired Skills

CPENG and/or RPEng accreditation, project management experience, and MS Office suite skills are highly desirable.
