Job Title: Public Entity Underwriting Director

About the Role:

We are seeking a senior underwriter with expertise in public entity insurance to fill this strategic leadership position.

You will assess both new business and renewal accounts, evaluating risk profiles and applying consistent underwriting strategies to drive retention levels, pricing, and coverage forms.

You will collaborate directly with brokers, risk managers, and our Business Development team to enhance broker understanding and expand our footprint in the public entity market space.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and refine our public entity offerings in partnership with leadership
  • Contribute to manuscript endorsements and policy wording
  • Evaluate complex data including financials, loss trends, and exposure assessments to guide account selection and pricing strategies
  • Help shape the future of our public entity portfolio by driving product innovations

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred in a related field such as risk management, finance, or business administration
  • 10+ years of experience in multi-line underwriting, ideally within the public entity or large retention space
  • Demonstrated success in a production underwriting environment with consistent achievement of business goals
  • Experience in product development for public entity insurance programs
  • Proven leadership qualities with the ability to coach, influence, and collaborate cross-functionally
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to negotiate effectively and build strong broker/client relationships
  • Strategic and analytical mindset with a keen understanding of state immunities, tort caps, and public sector exposures
