Drug and Alcohol Clinical Nurse Consultant

The Clinical Nurse Consultant (Grade 1) provides assessment and management support of patients with drug and alcohol related conditions during Emergency Department presentations and/or hospital admissions.
The goal of the Hospital Drug and Alcohol Consultation Liaison (HDA-CL) program is to enhance the safety, clinical outcomes, quality and efficiency of services for patients with substance use disorders in hospitals across the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District, including the Safe Assessment Unit (SAU).
The Safe Assessment Unit is a designated unit providing support, early dual diagnosis intervention, and a calming therapeutic environment to patients exhibiting behaviours of concern, including drug and alcohol intoxication and/or withdrawal.
The Drug and Alcohol Hospital Consultation Liaison nurse is a clinical expert who, through leadership, facilitates excellence in research-based clinical practice, delivers education and management advice to healthcare professionals, participates in research, and provides professional leadership.
You may be required to work at our other Drug and Alcohol sites.

Assessment and Management: Provide comprehensive assessment and management support to patients with drug and alcohol related conditions.
Clinical Expertise: Demonstrate expertise in drug and alcohol-related health issues, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment.
Leadership and Education: Provide leadership, education, and management advice to healthcare professionals on drug and alcohol-related health issues.
Research and Quality Improvement: Participate in research and quality improvement initiatives to enhance clinical outcomes and services for patients with substance use disorders.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to provide comprehensive care to patients with drug and alcohol-related health issues.
Professional Development: Stay up-to-date with best practices, research, and guidelines in drug and alcohol-related health issues.
Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients, families, carers, and healthcare professionals.
