Job Title: Academic Resource Specialist

Overview

The Academic Resource Specialist is a vital member of the educational team, responsible for providing access to information, promoting literacy, and supporting academic growth.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Instructional Management:
  • Design and deliver lessons on library and information seeking literacy skills, intellectual property awareness, and digital citizenship.
  • Instruct students in print and non-print resources, as well as research techniques.
  • Develop integrated curriculum and technology-rich literacy experiences for all students.
  • Promote instructional technology to improve learning outcomes.
  • Foster a creative environment that integrates the school library into the learning community.
Teacher/Faculty Support:
  • Collaborate with teachers to create lesson plans and materials aligned with TEKS and ISTE standards.
  • Promote the use of existing and emerging technologies to support teaching and learning.
  • Provide professional development opportunities as needed.
  • Facilitate collaboration and instructional ideas for supplemental programs.
Librarian/Media Specialist Support:
  • Promote a love of reading and lifelong learning as a foundational skill.
  • Provide recreational and instructional materials in print and digital formats.
  • Develop and maintain resources appropriate to the curriculum and learners' needs.
  • Establish procedures for resource selection, acquisition, and circulation.
School/Organization Climate:
  • Apply excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Communicate with principal, teachers, and staff about campus needs.
School/Organization Improvement:
  • Maintain awareness of current research and trends in curriculum, library practices, and technology.

Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management:
  • Plan for library space, facilities, and time usage.
  • Provide an environment that fosters connectedness among stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate fiscal responsibility and knowledge of learning community needs.
Student Management:
  • Work collaboratively with teachers to ensure a safe and educational environment for students.
  • Supervise student volunteers as needed.
School/Community Relations:
  • Communicate with students, parents, staff, and community in a manner representative of the media program, campus, and district vision, mission, and goals.
  • Develop collaborative partnerships with the campus and community.
Professional Growth and Development:
  • Identify strengths and weaknesses in areas of professional growth and participate in professional development opportunities.
  • Continually read fiction and nonfiction including professional resources, grade-appropriate content, and personal materials.
