Midwifery Career Advancement Program

The Graduate Diploma in Midwifery Program is designed to provide a supportive and nurturing environment for Registered Nurses (RNs) to develop and refine their midwifery skills.

This program includes:

  • Experienced preceptors offering initial and ongoing support
  • A structured curriculum spanning the continuum of maternal and newborn care
  • Continuity of care experiences aligned with university requirements
  • Support from highly skilled staff members
  • Flexible rostering arrangements
  • Access to a purpose-built onsite education centre equipped with the latest technology for teaching, simulation, and presentations
  • Opportunity for permanent employment upon completion of the program

To be eligible, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Hold current Nursing registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Have a minimum of one year full-time experience in an acute care setting
  • Be concurrently enrolled in a Diploma of Midwifery program at either the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) or Western Sydney University (WSU)
  • Be able to undertake part-time employment with a Flexible Total Earnings (FTE) of 0.84, working 8- and 12-hour shifts on a 7-day rotating roster
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of the role of a midwife within a primary healthcare framework
  • Display ability in clinical problem-solving
  • Exhibit high levels of interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Understand and demonstrate the ability to work effectively as part of a team
