Job Overview

A Mechanical Design Engineer is a crucial professional in any industrial and automation organization, responsible for expanding mechanical design capabilities.

The successful candidate will produce high-quality mechanical engineering drawings in line with technical and commercial specifications, reporting to the senior design manager.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, detail, and develop machinery and tooling using advanced CAD software like Solid Works.
  • Produce proposal technical drawings for customers during the quotation process, ensuring clarity and precision.
  • Ensure all documentation is correctly updated, referenced, and stored in a centralized repository.
  • Identify opportunities for cost reductions and improved efficiencies within the process, implementing effective solutions.
  • Strive for simplicity in design and improved reliability, considering factors like material selection and manufacturing processes.
  • Participate in trials and machine testing, providing valuable insights and feedback.
  • Undertake international travel to customers, including some weekend work and travel where required, to ensure seamless communication and collaboration.
  • Actively participate in improvement projects as needed, driving innovation and progress.
  • Develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders, customers, and suppliers, fostering strong partnerships and trust.
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures, maintaining a culture of excellence and professionalism.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Proficient in Solid Works and able to work effectively as a member of a design team, leveraging collective expertise and experience.
  • Work accurately, calmly, and effectively under pressure and tight deadlines, managing time and priorities efficiently.
  • React positively and calmly to sudden changes in demand, adapting quickly to new situations and challenges.
  • Good organizational and communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas and concepts clearly.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with experience building professional relationships at all levels, from junior colleagues to senior executives.
  • Commercial awareness and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on delivering results-oriented solutions.
  • Provide solutions and perform design calculations for mechanical components, drives, and structures, ensuring accuracy and precision.
  • HNC or equivalent in mechanical engineering (ideally), with a strong foundation in mathematical and scientific principles.
  • Ability to understand and interpret technical drawings, geometric tolerancing, and specifications, applying knowledge of industry standards and best practices.
  • Understanding of manufacturing and mechanical design processes, with experience working in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Fully vaccinated and hold a valid passport, with the ability to travel internationally as required.
