About the Role

This position is for an innovative pilot project based in Bundaberg and surrounding suburbs. The role involves working directly with vulnerable families to address complex challenges, ensuring their safety, stability, and resilience.

The Family Support Specialist will work under the direction of a Service Coordinator to implement individualized family support plans, addressing behavioral, psychosocial, and safety needs. This includes providing hands-on support to each family, conducting regular face-to-face sessions focused on behavior management, trauma recovery, and parenting skills development.

The Family Support Specialist will also foster connections between families and specialized services and resources such as healthcare, housing, and education. Additionally, they will maintain detailed case documentation to ensure that family goals are consistently met.

This role requires flexibility and crisis intervention skills to respond effectively to each family's unique challenges. A collaborative approach and strong communication skills are essential for success in this position.

Key Responsibilities
  • Implement Individualized Family Support Plans: Work with families to identify their strengths, needs, and goals, and develop personalized plans to achieve them.
  • Provide Hands-On Support: Conduct regular face-to-face sessions with families to provide emotional support, guidance, and connect them with local resources.
  • Foster Connections: Help families access specialized services and resources, including healthcare, housing, and education.
  • Maintain Case Documentation: Keep accurate and up-to-date records of family progress and outcomes.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Certificate IV in Community Services or Relevant Field: A recognized qualification in community services or a related field is required.
  • Experience Supporting Children and Families: At least 12 months of experience supporting children and families with complex needs is essential.
  • Australian Driver's License: A current driver's license is required for this role.
  • First Aid Certificate and Current CPR: A valid first aid certificate and current CPR certification are necessary.
  • Working with Children Check (Paid Employee Status): A paid employee working with children check is required.
  • Reliable Vehicle and Smartphone: Access to a reliable vehicle and smartphone with data is needed.
