Key Roles

The Deputy Director for Aboriginal Economic Growth supports senior leaders to deliver economic outcomes for Aboriginal people, communities and businesses. This role focuses on developing the Aboriginal business sector, employment and training pathways, and economic prosperity in Aboriginal communities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert advice, reports, and briefs to inform strategic decisions.
  • Advise on effective engagement strategies with Aboriginal businesses and organisations to shape new policies and programs.
  • Collaborate with analysts, service providers, and Aboriginal stakeholders to design innovative approaches for economic self-determination.
  • Lead a team to develop and implement initiatives supporting the growth of Aboriginal businesses.
  • Promote strength-based approaches to Aboriginal empowerment across government agencies.
  • Build partnerships with regional stakeholders, private sector, and Aboriginal organisations to inform policy and improve economic outcomes.
Requirements
  • Be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent.
  • Identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person.
  • Be accepted by the Aboriginal community.
Preferred Location

Consideration given to candidates based regionally, focusing on Queanbeyan, Armidale, Dubbo, and Coffs Harbour locations.

About You/Qualifications
  • Proven experience leading teams and developing initiatives for Aboriginal businesses.
  • Strong ability to build partnerships and promote economic empowerment.
  • Experience working with internal teams and Aboriginal communities to implement strategies and business priorities.
