Deputy Director Aboriginal Economic Development

The Deputy Director, Aboriginal Economic Development is responsible for delivering economic development priorities and strategies that enhance outcomes for Aboriginal people, communities and businesses.

This position requires an expert advisor to provide strategic guidance to senior leaders, engage with Aboriginal stakeholders to inform new policies and programs, and lead a team to identify, develop and deliver initiatives aimed at supporting the establishment and growth of Aboriginal businesses.

The ideal candidate will have proven experience in leading teams, promoting strength-based approaches to Aboriginal empowerment, and building partnerships with regional stakeholders, government agencies, the private sector and Aboriginal organisations to inform policy and improve economic outcomes.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing expert advice, reports and briefs to senior leaders to support strategic decisions.
  • Advising on effective ways to engage Aboriginal businesses and organisations in shaping new policies and programs.
  • Leading a team to identify, develop and deliver initiatives and projects aimed at supporting the establishment and growth of Aboriginal businesses.
  • Building partnerships with regional stakeholders, government agencies, the private sector and Aboriginal organisations to inform policy and improve economic outcomes.

About You:

  • We are seeking an experienced professional who has a strong understanding of the NSW Government's Closing the Gap Priority Reform 5 (Employment, Business Growth and Economic Prosperity).
  • The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate their ability to work effectively with Aboriginal stakeholders, including businesses, organisations and communities.
  • They will also need to have excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with internal teams, regional stakeholders and external partners.
