Research Fellow Opportunity

This research fellow position links to a dynamic and energetic research program within the School of Social Sciences at the University of New South Wales.

The research focuses on contemporary experiences of care and caring, working with leading academic and industry-based researchers to improve understandings of care transitions.

The research fellow will primarily work on a project funded by an Australian Research Council Linkage Project Grant that explores the experiences of informal carers, and the conditions in which transitions out of caring occur.

The project aims to generate new knowledge to address the unmet needs of former carers, as well as benefit current carers and their care recipients by bringing practice and policy attention to the circumstances that sustain caring relationships and wellbeing over time.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support and coordinate the overall administration and delivery of the project tasks
  • Contribute independently and as a team member to undertake activities to deliver the project and related research, ensuring accurate and timely action to ensure project milestones are met

Specific Accountabilities for this Role Include (but are not limited to):

  • Oversee and coordinate data management to standards required for ethical conduct of study
  • Support data management and tasks related to the day-to-day running of the project
  • Conduct and lead literature reviews
  • Coordinate and liaise with partner organisations in the recruitment of participants
  • Conduct data collection, as it relates to the research project including in-depth interviews, timeline mapping, focus groups, workshops using cultural probes techniques
  • Support and contribute to the analysis of large amounts of qualitative data (and quantitative data as appropriately trained)
  • Support the dissemination of research outcomes through appropriate channels, by contributing to academic and non-academic publications, presenting to end users at conferences, meetings and workshops relevant to the project

About the Position:

The successful candidate will have a PhD (or near completion PhD) in the social sciences or a discipline closely related, experience working on complex and/or sensitive research projects, and relevant knowledge and expertise in contemporary sociological approaches and social theory.
