
Palliative Care Research Specialist

This is an exciting opportunity for a postdoctoral researcher to join our team as a Palliative Care Research Fellow. The role works within the Mission and Mission in Action to support and develop research within the organisation that is focused on palliative and supportive care.
The Palliative Care Research Fellow will provide high-level support for research in palliative and supportive care, including identification of funding opportunities, project management, research governance, data analysis, and publication of research findings.
- Provide academic research support to the Director and senior palliative care researchers.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of the palliative care research strategy.
- Build and maintain internal and external research collaborations.
- Identify funding opportunities and contribute to grant and ethics applications.
- Support research design, including protocol development and project management.
- Conduct data analysis, generate reports, and contribute to academic publications.
- Present and disseminate research findings via seminars, workshops, and conferences.
- Mentor and support junior researchers to build internal research capacity.
- Coordinate and participate in research meetings and communications.
- Ensure compliance with research governance and ethical standards.
- Take initiative in proposing, securing funding for, and managing new research projects.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Commitment to engage and align with our mission, motivation, and action.
- Have a passion for research which can improve palliative and supportive care.
- Completed or about to submit a PhD in a relevant health-related, aged-care, or social science discipline.
- Experience in mixed methods health services research in a relevant field.
- Track record of publication in peer-reviewed journals.
- Skills in quantitative and/or qualitative research methods (ideally both).
- Knowledge and experience of systematic reviews desirable.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Sound understanding of ethical issues and competence in writing ethics applications.
- Able to prioritise workflow and meet short funding application deadlines when necessary.
- Strong administrative and computer skills, including high-level proficiency in the Microsoft suite of Office products and reference management and other research relevant software.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience in grant writing an advantage.
- Experience in research project management an advantage.
- Clinical background in a relevant field desirable.
- Willingness to travel to other sites to engage with stakeholders from time to time as needed.
